Ancient gear? vs Vintage gear?

One would assume "ancient gear" to be very very old rare no longer made or used museum quality equipment such as the Aerophore by Rouquayrol & Denayrouse, a Riichi or perhaps a LePrieu-Fernez, maybe a Commeinhes?

One would think a double hose regulator, be it one of the many imported or produced in the period between 1950s- 1970s would be considered "vintage gear."

To define true and correct vintage one must identify the era of the double hose regulator which would be the driving factor in the selection of the accessary equipment. Some equipment has been around almost since the introduction of the double hose regulator.

A classic example is the SPG-been around almost since the beginning yet most consider it vintage
Or even the Personal Flotation vest (PFV) been around a long time.

Can some one clarify this for me and others who must be equally confused
