The headquarters of the Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary will soon be moving to UC Santa Barbara.

A $4 million federal grant will help build a new administrative and research facility on the UCSB campus. Students with the university's Marine Science Institute will take a more active role in the study of underwater environment surrounding the Channel Islands.

"We value our joint programs with the sanctuary, and we look forward to sharing the resources of this university with them," says UCSB Chancellor Henry Yang. "This shared facility will allow us to work together more closely, economically and effectively on marine policy and science research."

UCSB is currently in the middle of a major makeover, as construction continues on over a dozen building and renovation projects at a cost of $880 million.
