GWs are surface feeders so unless you are bobbing at the surface you're not likely to be attacked. IIRC, there has only been one reported attack on a diver under water in California. A diver at Pt. Lobos was hit at around 40 feet. He said it may have been because of the electrical impulses from the scooter he was using. The shark took one bite, hitting his tank, scooter and weightbelt. I don't recall if the diver was even cut. Chuck might remember better than I.
