First off, what Elaine said is absolutely right.
YOU are responsible for YOURSELF.

An SCA is an ADVISORY ("hey folks, pay attention
to what's going on.") not a WARNING. I've had my
17' Boston Whaler out in lots of SCAs. And I've
stayed home from lots of SCAs too. I have my
personal forecast thresholds, based on over 400
days on the water in my area, and listening to
those with more experience than I. An SCA in the
forecast makes me double check the numbers and
directions in the forecast. It's the numbers and
directions that keep me home, not the SCA itself.

And BTW, I've stayed home in some non-SCA
conditions too. The numbers and directions
exceeded my thresholds, so I stayed home.
