A few weeks ago I tried to post a dive report on this BBS that contained several references to Casino Point at Avalon. But each time I clicked the "Post Message" button I received an 'internal server error', apparently from the host system. I checked & re-checked the Name and E-Mail boxes, and even did a quick diagnostic on my own Internet hook-up. But every time I hit the post message button I got the same error message. It was frustrating, because I could see other postings arriving on the BBS as I was trying to post my own message. Then I began to wonder, gee, has Dick Analog been banned from the BBS? What could have I said that would have been so offensive? It's likely that the sometimes over-exuberant ramblings of a new diver got a bit tedious for some.... but to the point of being cut off from all my So.Cal. cyber-dive buddies? I sent Chris G. an e-mail, explaining the difficulty I was having. He figured out what was happening right away: the site's spam filters had recently been tightened up quite a bit, in response to the increasing attacks on his BBS. The word "Casino" in my posting was the likely offender, as attacks from g-a-m-b-l-i-n-g Internet sites were a frequent part of the ever-growing spam-storm. Sure enough - after replacing each 'Casino' reference in my posting to 'Avalon', the message posted right away.

It looks as though Chris has accomodated the local dive community by taking the evil "C" word off the blacklist; thanks Chris, not only for that, but for making this wounderful resource available to all of us.
