When I started back in '64, there warn't no fancy BC's, SPG's, Octo's, etc. It was backpack divin' only and I don't recall ever having had a bouyancy problemo. Later in the decade came safety vests with cartridge inflators & manual inflation tubes. It was a lot simpler in the "dark ages" of diving, and safer, too, mainly due to more complete, intensive basic training. And just as much fun, and CHEAPER. My first reg, a top o' the line Scubapro I bought at Richard's Aqua Lung Shop on 42nd St. in New York cost 90 bucks. But I guess when you build in inflation etc., probably just as expensive as today.
