Many major cities have maritime museums. The Los Angeles Maritime Museum is located on Harbor Blvd. and 6th street. Do you people complain about art museums? Natural history museums? Do you cry foul if some archeologist digs up a dinosaur bone? Maybe we should just take all the Civil War relics and dump them back in the middle of a field somewhere. I'm sure if we returned all the King Tut exhibit artifacts, the Egyptian workers who retrieved them would gladly return their paychecks. It would be expensive, but we should make a special trip to the Moon to return the rocks we stole.
Every time a school bus pulls up to a museum I see kids excited to see artifacts recovered from underwater or on land. It's too bad they forget those feelings when they grow up. Maybe you guys are right. A pile of rust and a silt-covered wheel looks so much better rotting away where probably none of you would ever go to see it in the first place than to see it restored on display with information about its past. Sheesh!
