Hey Phil,
I hope I take a more realistic view of things than that.
Admittedly my view is human centric, because that is what I study, but my view is hopefully a bit more thought out. I not only love to experience healthy habitats myself, I think humans are poorer when the world loses a healthy environment. In the terms of survival that I study, I believe humans are in danger and every unhealthy ecology is a warning of that.
Since I am human centric, I have written a comment somewhere that looks at environments in terms of human use. Human centric or not, it says something about the environment.
A natural resource may be:
Unutilized
Under utilized
Utilized at maximaum sustainable yield
Over utilized to reduced yield.
Over utilized to destruction.
.
Utilized at maximaum sustainable yield is the best option for humans. It also requires a very healthy and probably fairly mature ecology.
I think that describes the optimal way for humans (of a human centric view) to interact with the environment. It makes clear that we must husband resources, not pillage them to destruction.
Enjoy the diving, seahunt
