There's a LOT that isn't sand in Monterey besides
the Metridium fields. You just have to do some
homework on where it is. From the beach: Bruce

There's PLENTY of kelp up here in the summer, and plenty of otters year round. The kelp gets ripped
out by the winter storms because we have no
offshore islands to speak of for protection. It
comes back when the sea calms down, and by August
you can walk on it.

Navigational nit: Pt. Lobos is a little WSW of
Monastary, not north.
