I have come across a few dive groups that "require" you to dive with a buddy. If you didn't bring one they insist that you buddy up with someone that you don't know.
I have always thought that this is a very dangerous practice that is in place to protect the sponsoring dive shop or group, not the involved divers. Perhaps "buddy wavers" are a necessity in this day and age. Especially when a dive buddy is arbitrarily assigned to you.
I have always had a special respect for the boat that has the sign "solo diving is not a crime".
