I'm trying to figure out how this could have happened.. does the water get deep at treasure island / montage really fast? If the diver did not have his fins on, they must have been in shallow water still.

In addition, it seems the diver must have inflated his BCD enough to stay afloat, but then when the hose became disconnected, air came out of the BCD, and he started sinking. Otherwise he would have started sinking as soon as he couldn't touch his feet on the bottom.

He must have been weighted down pretty good, all he had to do was drop his weight belt or release the weights from the BCD and he would have come up. The article doesn't say whether his BCD was weight-integrated.

Assuming no foul play, how do people think this actually happened?
