It's hard for non-divers to comprehend that a normally responsible peson's brain can freeze that quickly... but the person who's realized he's got no air and is sinking... I guess his mind is running through too many things to sort out the A answer. But I'd bet anything that's what happened to this OC diver. And his poor buddy is going to go broke trying to defend himself unless he has enough insurance to have them pony up.
