MONTEREY, Calif. A scuba diver and a kayaker should consider themselves pretty lucky after drifting out to sea.
As darkness fell last night, the Coast Guard was looking for both the scuba diver and the kayaker on opposite sides of Monterey Bay.

Thirty-two-year old Jennifer Thomas was missing after drifting away from where she and four other scuba divers began diving yesterday afternoon.

At the same time, the Coast Guard was also looking for a missing kayaker.

About 7:00, the kayaker, 28-year-old Heather Gastil, walked ashore after being tossed into the sea. Authorities say she appeared to be suffering from hypothermia but could speak and walk.

Then about 7:30, the Coast Guard located Thomas frantically waving a hand-held signal.

She was taken ashore and transferred to Community Hospital in Monterey.

The Coast Guard says Thomas had drifted about six miles from where she first entered the water.
