As a hobby I've been making spring straps for a couple of years now. We use 302 stainless in the spring material and 316 for any of the connection points. I have worn out fins and transferred the springs to other fins and they just keep on working. The one thing that you have to be a little concerned with is that you don't over stretch them, but just putting them on and off this will never happen, if your using the correct diameter wire in your springs.
