I have avoided dry suits for all the reasons you state, however I would still like to have one for some dives.
When I do decompression dives a drysuit would be nice to stay warm durring the low activity deco stops. Also when the water drops into the 40s like Miguel in the winter and Northern California a drysuit would be nice.
But hate drag on most dives. so much so the I often don't use a BC becasue of the added drag. Also The way I go into holes in bug season wouold destroy the seals on any dry suit, not to mention that it would probably tear scrae up the suit on sharp rocks. Thus in my 23 years of diving I have avoided the dry suits.
But .... I still want one for Very COLD water.
