Linux won't help, and GNU only really applies because of their free distribution license. Other such licenses could come in, too. This is really a license issue, not an OS issue. You don't hurt Adobe by switching OS's, you only hurt them by not using their software.
The real issue is that under any OS, there is no alternative to photoshop for some of us (and really, don't say GIMP). They've chosen a new license enforcement method, and picked a number of computers greater than 1 (which is more than some licenses grant), but which is too small for Elaine.
