This is why we stopped selling spear fishing equipment and made our boat trips non-hunting (even though it has cost us sales). This go’s on all the time. It makes no sense to let divers go down and kill the very creatures that we are going diving to see.
Spearfishing on scuba should be banned (the dive boat community could do this if they wanted to). This would stop lots of this kind of abuse of our environment.
But it does not address the bigger problem, of the hundreds (or thousands) of fish taken by line fisherman every weekend (in this area), and the thousands(10’s of thousands) of creatures killed every day by the commercial industry.
I’m afraid that there will not be much for the next generation of divers to see, unless something is done.
Banning spearfishing on scuba would be a small step, but at lest it would be a step forward (and it’s something that our community could do to make a difference).

PS In the old days, Ira would warn them once and if they didn't stop, he would load there gun and firing into space and let it go. That put a stop all the shooting of little fish.
