For what it’s worth …… picture number two (The right) is over all, a lighter shot. It shows more shadow detail in the lower left of the slide. I remember my photo 2 instructor mentioning that to me about 10,000 times or so (Shoot for shadows, print for highlights…. I think). It looks a half, to a stop brighter. Less contrast.
Picture number one (The one on the left) however….. In my opinion has richer colors. The orange of the garibaldi, the blue of the sea, the green of those plant thingys. Yes, you lose shadow detail, but that can be fixed with lighting. Yes, there is more contrast, but to me, it makes the picture ‘work’. It has a better feel to it.
My vote is for the picture on the left.
