I've also seen the shrimp / anchor light / flying fish / seal combo out at the Coronados at night.
It was apparent the seal knew how to drive the fish towards the boat, and harvest those that collided with the hull. He would then go under the boat and repeat the tactic on the other side, and on and on.....
I've never tried to cook one, but I'll probably do it just to try it. I do take them home and do fish prints periodically.
