I remember that the oil companies were not only willing to top off the platforms so they wouldn't be a navigation obstacle as well as cap and clean the wells of oil, but were also going to DONATE half the cost savings from otherwise having to remove the structures to California's treasury. This was in the hundresd of millions of dollars. It was a win-win deal if ever there was one.
Enviros can be such chowder heads.
