We are delighted to announced that the Coalition for Enhanced Marine Resources (CEMR) has stepped up to the plate with a generous $1000 donation to the MHK Challenge as part of our overall Chamber Day fundraising activities to benefit the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber. (Chamber Day itself is May 3.)

CEMR is an environmental group based in Sacramento, dedicated to trying to preserve the teeming artificial reefs that have grown on the offshore oil platforms that dot the California coastline. CEMR's main efforts have been directed to lobbying for the passage of SB 241 which, in short form, would set up an endowment fund for marine resources protection, funding coming from allowing oil companies to donate a substantial sum to the fun in return for allowing the underwater portion of the oil rigs to remain in place once the rig's been decommissioned, instead of having the companies remove the entire rig, all the way down to the sea floor. (More info about CEMR and SB 241 can be found at "www.preservereefs.org".)

Since four of those platforms are just off of Huntington Beach, CEMR's donation is a logical one because as these rigs become more and more accessible to divers, the potential need for a facility like the Catalina Hyperbaric Chamber for divers diving these rigs becomes quite clear. We appreciate their support

You, too, can become a supporter of the Chamber by making a donation to the MHK Challenge. We've now got $15,000 within reach but we can't make it without your help. And in the unlikely event that either your or a friend ever need the services of our Chamber, this will be an investment that will be invaluable.
