The California Artificial Reef Enhancement (CARE) Program “ is
working to encourage additional research and public education regarding these thriving marine ecosystems.”
The Coalition for Enhanced Marine Resources’ (CEMR) mission “ is
to encourage the development, use and enjoyment of
reefs in California.”
( Both are 501(c)4 California non-profit corporations
supporting Senate Bill 241.)
These are the public pitches right off their websites.
If both these pitches are correct, why are they supporting
a bill that would restrict some legal activities such
as hunting on the oil rigs ??
According to the DFG, if a scuba diver obtains a fishing
license and follows the laws of the State of CA with respect
to season, sizes and take limits, they are not impacting our
renewable fishery resources. That is the whole reason for
the game laws.
If this is the case then why would CARE and CEMR back a
bill RESTRICTING hunting activities on thsese artificial rigs.
After all, isn’t one of the PRIMARY purposes of an
artificial rig for the enjoyment of fisherman and scuba divers.
Please don’t support SB241. It will cause us to loose very
valuable rights to resources that we as Californians possess.
Its our ocean, not the government’s. We ourselves are the only
ones that can voluntarily give up our rights, and once gone,
they are gone permanently.
