So I AM hunting scallops: I'm stalking to get my knife into their shell before they close up on me. I don't like to rip the entire shell off the substrate but only take the muscle and feed the guts and gills to the fish right there. Perfect recycling.
AFAIK, abalone have to be stalked on too, otherwise they lock themselves down. But I'm not so sure on that, I have never even tried.
