according to the "New Webster's Dictionary of the English Language"
copyright 1981:
stalk, v.i. To pursue or approach game stealthily as
behind a cover; to walk with slow, stiff, or haughty
strides; to proceed in a sinister or deliberate
manner.
you may be stalking to get your knife in the scallop
before it closes its shell, but i don't believe that's
what others do. even on the cover of the current
'cdn' mag, they show a freediver about to pry
off an abalone.
i still maintain that you are gathering, not hunting.

hell, even I!! could do THAT!!! w/o any 'hunting skills'.
happy scallop eating.
