I agree with the no-cotton comment. I'm a sea kayaker as well and one of the first rules we learn is that cotton kills if you ever get wet.

I bought a few poly long sleeve shirts from the local Northface outlet ($10 each). It wicks like crazy and I can always wear a couple on days I want to feel extra warm. I wear these shirts with my Northern Diver underwear garment (bought on sale--I don't know how they would compare with the DUI underwear garment) and the DUI TLS suit. Never been cold and it's easy enough to toss these shirts into the washing machine at the end of the day.
