In answer to your original question as to what we charge. I am a locksmith in Northern CA. I just got back from a job to let someone in there house. When I arrived they told me there key did would not work. They guy says wait a minute, goes through hs keyring and tries another key and door unlocked.

So what;'s your charge he asked and I tild him the service charge is $45 (Sunday) and he paid me. If I had picked open the lock ther would have been another $20 - $30 dollars on top uof that for my labor, knowledge and tools to do the job.

When requestiong service always expect to pay for it. If in doubt ask what the charge is. At 2AM on cold winter night here in the seirras if someone comes up from the Bay area and forgot the keys for their condo etc. I don't leave the house for less than $100. Anything less is not worth the loss of sleep or the agravation.
