My wife and I dive frequently at Monterey, Ca and
went to Tahoe for our high alt. cert. The water is not much cooler than the ocean...my wife thought it was warmer than Monterey. There is great vis- anywhere from 10-50 feet, not much to see...it's fresh water...lots of crawdads...an occasional trout. The water is mostly blue tinted. Be sure to get your high alt. certification. Don't go too deep. It's easy to do. In some places there are ledges that extend from the shore and slope to about 40 feet deep then drop to 120+
