One problem with "experience" is number of dives in a like environment. I've known divers with hundreds of warm water dives that I wouldn't take to the Olympic wreck. Also, I know a few who have at least 1000 dives in California, but learned bad diving habits early and continue to do them. Divers on boats in California have to learn the difference between them and boats in the tropics. The DM is there to rescue, aid, answer questions and in some cases, make coffee.;-) The DM is NOT a babysitter and should not be looked upon as a crutch for divers with inadequate skills.
