I too am reluctant to see any bars raised based
on cert level or depth of dive log. I made my first
trip to the Farallones with 37 dives experience. The
seas were big enough that most of the boat fed some
fish and we returned early, but I still had 2 great
dives on that trip.
I've been invited to and participated in many trips
where I was by far the most green of those there. I
use my judgement to know when and how I should hold
back.
I agree that from the perspective of the boat crew,
it's a rough situation. Some deal with it by just
catering to the intermediate diver, others will rely
on the divers to know their limitations best.
