Grossman's report: in a few simple words "butt cold, but nice"
Extrapolated you get:
NW swell running 5' x 8s with 16 kt N winds gusting to 21 kt. We anchored in 60' on a shelf about 1.7 miles NW of the Pt Arena Pier outside Arena Cove, 38°55'17"N 123°43'58"W. Vis 20' temps about 45°. Kelp was breaking the surface and should be a thick carpet by August. Small reef fish seen, red fish, greenlings, ling cod etc. Nice shelfy reef with depths of 50' to 70' similar to Talcott on Santa Rosa or the ledges at Miguel. Even with the wind blowing it was warmer in the wet suit above water than below. No Godcods sighted, unfortunately.
The day before and after we did some freediving at an unknown cove where we found some 9"+ abs in 7' during the +1' low tides. Vis 10' on Sat. diminished to 5' by Monday. Who says 5' of vis sucks?, that is all you need for ab grabbing, in fact 20' is a grounds for a holiday in NorCal.
This Saturday we are going to do the Oil rigs in Huntington Beach on the GE with the Sea Divers (which I still have couple of available spots left) and on Sunday a San Diego wreck while the girls do the RnR marathon. That will finish off a nice sampling of dives along CA coast in a just weeks time.
Vis is just a perception.
Dive now and have some wine over it later.
