I finished my OW checkouts at Monastery 5 years ago
and since then have accompanied students into it on
both the South and North ends. Much of the time it
is a easy dive, so long as you're willing to watch the
surf and go elsewhere if necessary. I would also
disagree with the characterization of the "long steep
strand of beach." mention; Monastery has a shorter
walk than many Monterey bay side sites where you may
have to park further away.

I'll agree that Lobos is easier, and better in terms
of fish life. I think North Monastery is on par in
every other regard. If you do go there, I advise a
buddy that is experienced with it. Blow the entry
and you might get tossed around a few times. Not a
killer if you're not dumb about it, but certainly not
a walk in the park.
