Bluefish cove is a spot worth the hassle of getting (or bringing) a boat to avoid a looooong surface swim (did I say swim? krawl!) over kelp. I tried to rent a kayak in Monterey--unsuccessfully. They won't let you use it at Pt. Lobos! I assume the same is going to happen if you find a place that rents inflatables. They fear the sharp surface rocks there, and they are treacherous.

I brought my own kayak on several occasions (from LA) and it was well worth it to get to bluefish cove. Unfortunately, some of the occasions had seas too rough to go out, so it was in vain.

Rent something from where you're coming and bring it. And enjoy some excellent dives at Pt. Lobos.
