I found this posted today on the Rodale's BBS:

"Early this morning at Moss Street, Laguna Beach, CA. (a popular dive site in southern california) Miguel Decuipulo (age unknown) died while scuba diving. A woman standing on the beach observed a diver lying face down, motionless on the surface. The woman called 911 and when the
paramedics and lifeguards pulled the man to the beach, he was pronounced dead.

Further investigation by myself and others with the Laguna Beach Lifeguards, revealed that Mr. Decuipulo was wearing a fully inflated bouyancy compensator and thirty pounds of weight when he was found. Early speculation points toward an embolism due to the fact that Mr. Decuipulo was a rather small man with too much weight and possibly got spooked by something while hunting, (speargun found) and experienced an uncontrolle ascent.

This is purely speculation on our part and I will report the medical examiners investigation report as soon as it's available.

Have safe dives, everyone."
