Oh I suppose so, but it depends on where you are swimming. North of San Francisco solid s/s irons are handy for walloping your buddy if he gets the bigger ab. South of SF they are good for prying thing-a-ma-jigs off of whatcha-ma-callits. Not to say a thing-a-ma-jigs could be mistaken for an abalone, oh no that definately would be illegal, but a thing-a-ma-jig could pass for a scallop or ten.
