Otherwise, we do want we believe is proper. In California,
that means if you want to dive alone, vaya con dios.
If you want to dive deep, the same. If you want to
enter Monastery in 4' surf...

I've done scores of dives in California considered to
be very advanced, but most of them can be done by
any competent OW diver with a bit of experience and
some good advice from those that have been there before.

A fear I have is that artificial training requirements will
just spur new divers to a quick succession of classes when
they ought to be getting in some diving experience first.
You can become a PADI MD with not that many total dives, and
without doing any dives on your own. I'd rather go in
with the OW diver with 30 dives without an instructor around.
