I'm sure all of you are very competent, experienced divers - if I've written anything to suggest otherwise, I appoligize. My interpretation of MHK's original post was that divers should think twice what impact their actions have on others besides themselves. My examples of motorcycle helmet laws and EMTs (perhaps I should have used the example of a horrified layperson trying to help or witnessing a rescue instead), were simply analogies to illustrate a point. I never dreamed that these analogies, by themselves, would be picked apart without addressing the original point. So if I came off glib, or annoyed, that's why. Diving is, of course, a sport with risk and danger. There's no way around that, but I don't think it's wrong to point out that people who put themselves in harm's way out of willful ignorance or arrogance risk more than just hurting themselves.
