I would think that it should be clear that there are many different ways to dive. DIR is fine for those that want to go that way and real good for some types of diving. Other systems are better for other divers and situations. I wouldn't want to try DIR lobster diving or photographing.
I did find one point interesting though. That usually divers start out buddy diving and typically they are with another very inexperienced diver. If you want a buddy system for the safety of an inexperienced diver, they should be buddied with an exprienced diver.
I have seen buddy diver teams do some serious lobster hunting, but they were regular teams anyway and well knew each other.
The lucky thing is that in the USA and most places, we can still pretty much dive the way we want and I think that is the best for all concerned.
