As usual, I am sure that the four Divers Councils of California should be kept informed. They can help disseminate the information to the community. Anything posted to our council will definitely be placed on our web page, mentioned in our newsletter, and talked about at dive club meetings.
The Greater Los Angeles Council of Divers (www.glacd.org) generated 300 letters of support in 1997 to help get abalone harvest south of SF closed.
I would personally be interested in hearing more on how the DFG plans on determining quotas for harvest, and what criteria it will be using for a "sustainable fishery", as well as what kind of landing taxes will be imposed on commercial fishing if it is allowed south of SF again.
