are you serious with your statement that one can over work most of the regulators sold today? This would be in quite a contrast to what we keep reading in RSD's tests.

Is it not more likely (like suggested by another poster further down the thread) that JC was in state of panic or near that, which caused him to hyper-ventilate? In that state (especially in combination of over-excertion), a person feels s/he can't get enough air, no matter what. The thought of being underwater in such a situation, having to breathe out of a contraption, increases the fear of not getting enough air, while the regulator would always deliver more than can be consumed.
