While I also enter Monastery with my fins off, it is
not something I recommend for the inexperienced. If you
screw up and get hit by a bad wave set, you're in serious
trouble that you wouldn't be if your fins are on.
If you have any doubt about your ease in passing through
the surf zone, keep those fins on.
