OK, so I solo dive. I recognize that an experienced buddy makes me safer, but on some dives choose to dive alone for various reasons. I realize that my fulfilling the role of a buddy makes the dive safer for another diver.

To push solo diving on others is wrong. Maybe more wrong than pushing buddies on me. But to use any dive tragedy to tout solo diving as just as safe as properly-done-buddy-diving is just plain stupid.

The biggest problem that I fear from this stuff is that inexperienced divers will get their machismo up and dive foolishly - with or without a buddy.

And when you meet an experienced solo diver and ask them, they will tell you htat there are many dives that they would never do alone. It would be as stupid as diving without a plan!

Oh well, time to get off the soap box. It has been 3 weeks dry and I am getting cranky for some N2 loading...
