I am on the island. I spoke to a local fireman and the Avalon Harbor Master. They both confirmed that the diver was looking for anchors. His wife and son were on the boat. His gear floated to the surface without his body. The wife called the emergency services. The speculation is that somehow he came up with a lift bag and doffed his bc but then passed out. He then drifted back down to 140 feet where he was found by a LA County paramedic/diver. Clearly a sad story. God bless him and his family.
