I Don't think most divers around the world have any understanding of conditions here.
I heard that the EAN caught on on the East Coast because the wrecks off Florida and that
area were numerous wrecks at a known depth so EAN planning was easier. I don't know for
sure.
I like EAN when I am potentially pushing the tables, but I agree with you that using it
for depth makes me wonder if it becomes more of a hazard waiting to happen. Shallow is
fine... In CA, it is easy to do some exploring that suddenly drops deep for a bit...
maybe even a 1.6ppO+ bit.
As I wrote, this thread and its ancestors are actually about other things than are
completely apparent. I'm still working on exactly what that is.
