Being a novice, my idea of solo diving is to essentially just go through the drills on the first dive, and descend no deeper than 50 feet (on that dive and subsequent dives). This way I get familiar with the rental equipment and the amount of weights I have on- take my time equalizing my ears, whatever. I start my ascent with approximately 1000 left. When I was on a boat dive and got paired off, I thought the guy turned into a jerk once he got underwater- I'm really not interested in hearing stories about ascending with only 200 or less left. My mind set is this- you are on your own anyway, but try to help if needed; and you're lucky if you live through your mistakes. One question- is it feasible to bring your own guideline and attach it somewhere- the boat, pier, whatever?
