Ken, I know that some divers dive alone. I have to fight that battle on almost all my charter boats. And if you look at the follow-up post under Criteria for Solo Diving you will see that most think that solo diving is the greatest thing since sliced bread.
I think that by setting out guidelines you have encourage this behavior(I know that this was not your intent,but look at the responds, any new diver reading this would think that it must be OK to dive alone, "all these really experience divers do it, and I want to be like them"). How did your boat diver learn about solo? It wasn't in his basic class that's for sure.
Sure lets talk about it, but the message for the new divers should be that solo diving is poor diving technique.
If the experienced divers want to solo dive(more power to them, but not on my charter boat).
