What's interesting for me in reading the responses to this thread is how many of you seem to enjoy diivng solo more than diving with a buddy. It's almost like many of you feel a buddy is a burden.
Personally, even though I do dive solo, I prefer diving with a buddy.
I enjoy having someone to share my experiences with, someone who may spot things that I miss on the dive, someone with whom to share the enjoyment of the dive experience.
Usually when I dive solo it's more because I'm forced to (I'm DMing and have to coordinate with our other DMs and go between the big groups) or I'm trying not to bore my buddies to death because I've got my camera and will settle into one spot for the entire dive.
But given a choice, I'd choose a buddy over solo any day of the week, not for the safety aspect, but just because it's more fun.
