Jim, when you say: "...the message for the new divers should be that solo diving is poor diving technique." you should qualify that statement by telling them that solo diving is an ADVANCED! diving technique based on the skills of self-reliant, self-rescue training and experience; that they should be prepared for solo diving because ALL buddy teams get separated, and when they do YOU ARE THE ONLY HUMAN BEING IN THE ENTIRE OCEAN! This crap about surfacing, waiting to reconnect, then continue the dive is a total waste of time, air, and effort.
