Simon, to my understanding, great whites don't come any closer than the Channel Islands around Santa Barbara, and then only to eat on a dead whale carcass like last year. I believe the water from N. California comes down around Pt. Arguillo, but stops there and the Great Whites don't like it any warmer. They like cold water and they like seals. That is why long surface swims in the Channel Islands is not recommended especially around seal rookeries.
