I tend to agree that the peace of mind that comes with using your own equipment is priceless; but
one of the key, operative words in my initial post is TRAVEL- and I have enough other stuff to carry, usually hiking and camera gear. I wouldn't travel somewhere just to dive- for instance, there's those San Gabriel mountains....
