This sounds like an instance when a buddy was very helpful. True, it appears this diver's buddy wasn't able to stop her from making an uncontrolled, rapid ascent, but the buddy (and others) were there to assist the diver at the surface and to get her aid as soon as possible. In addition, the buddy acted as a witness to the incident and was able to report what he/she saw to the people treating the victim, providing information that could actually aid in her treatment. Just my 2 cents.....
